I just read Unmeasured Grace: Annoying Christmas Songs.
This post was funny and so true. There are certain Christmas, or should I say Holiday songs (because they have nothing to do with Christ) out there that make you want to scream if you hear them one. more. time. Thankfully there are wonderful Christ-exalting songs out there and we are not restricted to hearing only mediocre, fluff.
Because of weather, Sunday services were re-scheduled for Saturday. We missed both due to snow up here. Yesterday, we were at Mom and Dad's for worship and no matter how many times I hear certain songs, my heart rejoices at the gospel message within them. Some of my favorites:
Hark, the Herald Angels Sing
"Glory to the newborn King: Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled...Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; Hail the incarnate Deity, Pleased as man with men to dwell, Jesus, our Emmanuel."
Joy to the World
"...the Lord is come; Let earth receive her King...the Savior reigns...no more let sins and sorrows grow...He comes to make His blessings flow far as the curse is found...He rules the world with truth and grace and makes the nations prove the glories of His righteousness and wonders of His love."
Christ the Lord is Born Today off Savior: Celebrating the Mystery of God Become Man by Sovereign Grace Ministry
How my happy heart rejoices
I can hear the angel voices
"Christ is born" they all are singing
From the sky this good news bringing
Let the earth rejoice
O come and lift your voices
Christ the Lord is born today
He came from heaven's throne
God is born a man today
To bring His children home
To bring His children home
Death and darkness surely tremble
Light has come to all the people
The Lion comes to crush the serpent
He comes a Lamb, a lowly servant
Let the earth rejoice
O come and lift your voices
God has sent His greatest treasure
Shown His love in greatest measure
Sending Christ to bleed and suffer
Purchasing our joy forever
Let the earth rejoice
O come and lift your voices
There are so many more. Each year I seem to marvel anew at God's redeeming plan.
